Los premios oscar celebrados en la noche del domingo tuvieron una edicion llena de sorpresas. Para empezar, la película coreana Parasite (Parasitos) se convirtió en la primera película extranjera en ganar el premio «Mejor película extranjera» y «Mejor Película.» El actor estadounidense Brad Pitt, ganó su primer premio en su rol como actor. Pitt, anteriormente, habia obtenido un oscar como productor cuando «12 años esclavo» (12 years slave) ganó el premio a la mejor película. Netflix solo logró ganar con el documental American Dream producido por el ex presidente de los Estados Unidos, Barack Obama y su esposa Michelle Obama. Netflix tambié ganó indirectamente a través de la actriz Laura Dern quien triunfó con un óscar a la mejor actriz de reparto por su rol de abogada en el filme Marriage Story (Historia de un Matrimonio)
