Japanese  music equipment manufacturer Audio-Technica conducted through it’s UK division  a study into Britain’s music purchasing habits which revealed that most people can’t remember when they last bought a CD.

According to the survey conducted by the manufacturer, 40% of those surveyed couldn’t remember when they last purchased a CD, and although most of them could not remember when they bought a CD,   %29 of the participants did remember they downloaded music the week before.   (Although the survey results don’t specify if they downloaded it for Free or they bought the download through iTunes or other online music store)  Also, Nearly half (49%) believed that it was acceptable to download music free of charge.

1,000 music fans  were interviewed in this survey  which formed  part of the manufacturer  ‘Sounds Of The Summer’ celebrations due to it’s 50 anniversary,   Audio Technica commissioned the study to investigate the effect technology is having on the way the UK consumes music and media, and to raise awareness of its “Music Reviewer Of 2012” competition.
